琉球列島の沖縄島と石垣島から得られている。タイ、ベトナム、ボルネオ及び台湾にやや広く分布し、イネ科植物に生息する。本属の種はどれも前腿節の内側基部に突起を持つことと、前脛節の内側先端近くに平たい突起を持つことで、近縁のKarnyothripsやMesandrothripsから区別できる。詳しい生態は不明だが、おそらく肉食性。

This species is obtained from Okinawa and Ishigaki Islands in the Ryukyu Islands.It is somewhat widely distributed in Thailand, Vietnam, Borneo and Taiwan, and lives in grasses.　All species of this genus can be distinguished from their close relatives, such as Karnyothrips and Mesandrothrips, by having an inner sub-basal tubercle on the fore femur and an inner sub-apical scale-like tubercle on the fore tibia. The detailed ecology of this species is unknown, but it is probably predatory.
